MATERIAL
Couro (vegetable leather). Just because something doesn’t exist right now doesn’t make it impossible. We wanted to create sophisticated lamps using leather so we started looking for a vegetable equivalent. And finally we discovered couro, or vegetable leather. The leaf of an American plant that is elegantly transformed into a light sculpture. Something that has never before been used in décor which is now celebrated as pure contemporary design.
CRAFT TECHNIQUE
The leaves from this American plant protect the flowering palm tree that they shelter During the month ofMarch when the plant flowers the leaves loose this primary function, in other words their usefulness. That’s when Mother Nature calls upon Let’sPause to collect them. Their fibrous texture and vivid chocolate colour make them similar to leather but sourced from vegetable matter. Nevertheless they retain the same resilience, shine and elegance; and extraordinary sophistication. Flexible, versatile and very malleable. The American palm tree leaf can be adapted to any shape required if handled correctly. The craftsman patiently moulds the leaves to the design with steam. It’s a painstaking process that it completely carried out be hand. The couro doesn’t respond well to machinery, only the human hand that converts them into sinuous lamps with a warm illumination or beautiful and stylish hats.
AFTER CARE & CLEANING
To ensure that COURO remains in pristine condition we recommend cleaning with a damp cloth.
