The new Conti ceiling lamp is an homage to Japanese design and nature. Made from the root of the olive tree, it’s an example of 100% natural upcycling.
At Let’s Pause, Japanese design provides an ongoing font of inspiration. We are fascinated by its way of honouring nature through pure lines and quality materials in a simple expression. desire to apply that classic aesthetic to one of the materials that we are most passionate about: the olive tree root.
That’s how Conti came about, a light fitting that not only illuminates spaces, but also pays homage to nature itself through craft. The creative process behind it where the component pieces are treated like the beads of a necklace, remind us of a mantra used in meditation, an opportunity for reflection and respect for the raw material provided by the Earth.
Conti is not only a designer ceiling lamp, but also a work of art that invites interaction. Made up of 17 individual parts that can be combined in different formats, Conti allows the user to customise the lamp to suit the space and or the circumstance. Like a bead necklace, each part of the olive is turned by hand, respecting its knots, scars and colour variations lending them a unique and singular beauty.
Each part of the Conti lamp reflects the craft process behind its creation. The carefully selected olive tree root is worked by hand by an expert cabinetmaker. The result is a light fitting that not only illuminates, but also tells a story: the creative repurposing of a natural material that is restored to life as a form or art.
The Conti lamp is conceived as an ambient indirect lighting, suitable for any space. Its LED light source is integrated, in such a way that the bulb becomes another piece of the structure, allowing the light to flow uninterrupted, equally highlighting the timber materiality as well as the surrounding ambience.
At 140 cm in length as its standard configuration, the Conti lamp can be adapted to different sizes and formats depending on the project: we can combine several units of different heights for lighting spaces like the void within a stairwell or the reception area of a hotel; or we can install it within living rooms, bedrooms or a reading corner within the home.
MATERIAL
Wild olive wood (Olea Oleaster). It is a wild, long-lived tree with a wide crown and a thick, twisted-looking trunk. In itself, it is already a natural sculpture.
CRAFT TECHNIQUE
For its beauty and its nobility, for its malleability to sculpt in it, at Let’s Pause we love the wild olive or wild olive tree. Virtually without modifying its twisted and completely irregular shape, this wood is worked to create small sculptures such as wall hangers or door and/or cabinet knobs. When something completely seduces you, it is impossible not to imagine it everywhere, embellishing its entire environment.
AFTER CARE & CLEANING
We recommend the use of a dry cloth. To clean any stain on the wood, you can apply a cloth with ammonia.
