The beauty of balance
The new pendant lamp from Let’s Pause is made from the hardy palm leaf. Its visual lightness and design convert it into an organic sculptural piece of art. Created by lighting designer Víctor Vinyamata, it’s defined by a perfect equilibrium floating in the air, combining technology, nature and craft. The perfect solution for illuminating a dining room table, a restaurant counter, work desk or hotel reception.
Balance as a conceptual force
Equilibri embodies balance in every sense of the word: it is both natural and technologically precise. The design combines a completely natural artefact with all its beautiful imperfections and irregular shape with a highly precise and efficient lighting system.
The concept of equilibrium is also conveyed through the lighting; the light source projects the palm frond upwards as if it were a suspended work of art while the downward light provides the required functional lighting within a space.
The installation is both delicate and exact, it requires finding the perfect point of inflection, like a suspension bridge which enhances its visual harmony. The elongated body appears to hover in the air while radiating a sense of calm and internal peace. Its design and the lighting effect give off a tranquil air and peace of mind, easily adapting to residential, contract or commercial projects.
An exceptional materia prima
The Syagrus Romanzoffiana is a species of palm that grows along the coastline of the Spanish Levante and is native to Latin America. Its spathes or elongated pods look as if they were designed by Mother Nature with a clear intent: to protect the seeds of its flower until they come into full bloom. At that stage, this elongated element opens to free the seeds, which while others see it as the end of a leaf that dries out and falls to the ground, at Let’s Pause we see it as the beginning of a creative process.
The copper-toned interior of the pod is a living trace of its natural process. Its color emerges from the oxidation of tannins and plant pigments that, as they dry and are exposed to sunlight, reveal unique metallic reflections. This hue not only beautifies but also acts as a natural protective barrier, with antifungal and repellent properties that safeguard the flower and its fruit. A functional beauty, born from nature’s own intelligence.
Much more than a designer lamp: a work of organic upcycling
Nature, craft and technology come together with the Equilibri lamp; it’s a great example of our passion for transforming natural elements into functional and beautiful design: after flowering, the palm tree pods are collected and treated with great care by an expert woodworker, who refines the edges and polishes its imperfections until achieving a fine, smooth texture to the touch. It is a process that exalts the nobility of the material without diminishing its natural essence: the luxury of the wild, the balance between what is natural and what is made with soul. It is time standing still, beauty that does not seek perfection, serenity that lives in the essential.
A unique design for each piece
Each palm tree pod opens in a different way and takes on a unique natural shape that we respect in the design, lending each Equilibri lamp its own identity. It’s not a “perfect” design, but a living one — full of character and soul.
The elongated, slender and ethereal shape is a common characteristic running through all the lamps which helps explain the name: suspended from the ceiling along a horizontal axis, maintaining perfect equilibrium despite its irregularities. This physical balancing act symbolises the quest for harmony amongst opposing elements: the organic and the technical, the crafted and the precision. The almost imperceptible presence of the two cables that hold it in place, makes the lamp appear to float in the air in a sort of mysterious manner.
Natural aesthetic that recalls the texture of wood
The pod from which it’s created, has a firm and hard-wearing texture, and looks a little like beech wood, with an inside of copper brown tones that adds a cosy warmth to any ambience. That reddish interior, the result of a natural process of oxidation and drying, brings metallic and vibrant nuances that shift with the light, making each piece truly one of a kind.
As for the exterior there are two options for the finish: you can choose between a raw natural finish or an elegant white colour that contrasts with the brown on the insides.
Ambient light and environmentally friendly design
Industrial designer Víctor Vinyamata has succeeded in merging the world of light with this natural piece in an elegant and subtle way. The Equilibri lamp is provided with highly efficient lighting. The light source, fitted within an aluminium insert that is 100% recyclable and reusable, is designed to project the light both upwards, highlighting the interior of the leaf, as well as downwards, bathing any tables and work surfaces below with light. In this way it achieves a perfect balance between ambient and functional lighting.
A lamp that will distinguish any space
The Equilibri lamp not only illuminates but transforms whatever space it’s featured within, adding an evocative and charming ambience. The light source comes in two sizes, 60 cm and 90 cm in length, and can be combined with two different leaf sizes, of 120 cm and 190 cm in length approximately. This sculptural element illuminates and adds a sophisticated decorative character to different spaces: a dining room or meeting room table, a hotel reception, the counter of a retail shop, a restaurant or any space in fact that needs to stand out with an authentic organic style.
